Quick Movie Review: The Trial (John Lloyd Cruz)

Its trailers are all over our televisions, its lead stars are all over ABS-CBN shows — I’m sure most of our Pinoy readers know what I am talking about. I’m referring to Chito Roño’s latest film, The Trial. The Trial features top stars in the industry. Richard Gomez, Gretchen Barretto, Sylvia Sanchez and John Lloyd Cruz are some of them to name a few.

STORY

The Trial’s story concept is not unique at all. If you have watched Forest Gump or Budoy in the past, you’ll know what I mean. But surprisingly, I was not bored watching the film at all. There’s something exceptional about it that will get you hooked to watch it to its end. I also appreciate how the flashbacks and the present time were carefully presented during the movie. It’s very cohesive that you will not be left hanging about the ending. I’d really like to commend the writer and the director of The Trial (Ricky Lee and Chito Roño) for producing such a masterpiece.

Just a little gist:

The story of The Trial  revolves around a 27 year old mentally challenged guy named Roland (John Lloyd Cruz) who allegedly raped his teacher (Jessie Mendiola). How he survived the whole court proceedings is something to look forward here. (I’ll leave the watching part as your assignment. I want to spare you from spoilers.*winks*)

ACTING

The Trial is composed of powerhouse actors. John Lloyd Cruz, as always showed why he deserved the crown as the box-office king. He acts so naturally that you will be moved with the lines he delivered as a mentally challenged individual. I have no doubts that he will receive an award for his role in this film. The supporting actors and actresses of the movie were as great as the lead character. I appreciate how Richard Gomez and Gretchen Barretto portrayed their roles. I actually cried on many scenes with Gretchen on it because I was so convinced with her acting. Sylvia Sanchez, as expected displayed an excellent performance as John Lloyd’s mother in the film. Vince De Jesus, who played as Roland’s father, actually surprised me. His acting was superb as well that I really enjoyed his character together with the punch lines that came with it. Enrique Gil and Jessie Mendiola also exhibited an outstanding performance when portraying their characters during the movie.

MY RATING: 10/10

I’m giving The Trial a perfect ten. Contrary to what many people perceive, Tagalog movies are not “corny” as they were ages ago. The Trial is one of the new breeds of movies that are worth your dime and your time.

You must definitely watch The Trial on the big screen (It’s R13 though because it tackles some sensitive issues). Oh, let me warn you, the movie is a tearjerker so don’t forget to bring your tissues and handkerchiefs and your shoulder to cry on (if you have one)

Lahat ng Tao may Diperensiya kung Jinudge.

ciao.

Are you Ready for your Reality Ever After?

Hi friends! Thank you for dropping by my blog.

When I was a little girl, I thought I was some fairy tale princess just like Belle, Aurora or Cinderella. So, I waited for prince charming to come and save me from distress. Then, we’ll live happily ever after…

The funny thing about growing up is that as you grow older each day, the way you see things also changes. After so many years of wandering, I found out that in real life, there’s no such thing as prince charming. The good news though is that we can still all be a princess or even a queen bee in our own reality ever after.

So, are you in for your own reality ever after? Well, I am! Let’s find out together the realities of life as we try to find our own ever after…

Our New Online Tote Bags Shop for Working Girls in Instragram

What makes you busy? Is it your work, family, studies, career or love life? As for me, it’s all of the above (except for the love life part. *grins*). As I am nearing the big day (May 2015 Board Exams), I figured that I would not be able to commit in my money-making escapades aka online jobs. So, I already quit some of them. Right now, I am only accepting freelance projects such as press releases and write-ups. My latest project was that of an ice ball molds company. Anyway, projects like this rarely come up so my extra income is a bit limited. Hence, I decided to establish my own business online where I can earn my passive income while preparing for the big day.

Living across the bag and shoe capital of the Philippines (Marikina City) and having some relatives operating a bag and shoe supply business in the city, I have realized the potential of selling high quality bags at a cheaper cost online. Because of this realization, Penny for a Tote, our new tote bags shop was born on Instagram last June. Well, if you are a familiar with the old song A Penny for your Thoughts, that is where I got our shop’s name.

One of my Personal Favorites <3

One of my Personal Favorites ❤

Penny for a Tote mainly caters to working girls around the country that are always on the go. Because of this, we focused on selling high quality tote bags that can accommodate more stuff that smaller satchels or sling bags cannot do. Laptops, notebooks, folders—they can all fit in inside our 12x18x7 tote bags. Don’t just overdo it as everything has its limitations. *winks*

Purple + Stripes= WONDERFUL

Purple + Stripes= WONDERFUL

Aside from being high quality (Marikina Made bags are!), unique and work savvy, the bags that we are selling at Penny for a Tote were equivalent to one third of what branded bags offer to its customers. So, that’s like buying three bags for a price of one. Well, why should you buy your bags at extravagant costs when you can have it for less and cheaper prices, right?

The Color of this tote is love. It's very pleasing to the eyes, isn't it?

I know. I know. I know. I somehow suck at promoting our own shop. *giggles* But, who cares? Perhaps, a product that sells itself need not so much advertising.

Follow @penny4totes on Instagram and check out our bags yourself to see what I am talking about.

Confessions of a Certified K-Drama (Kilig Drama Series) Addict

I’ve read somewhere that a K-drama (Korean drama) addict is someone who watches his/her favorite K-drama until the wee hours of night or until his/her eyes can manage.

For many years now (10 years to be exact. XD ) , I must admit I have been a K-drama addict. I can spend hours (or even days if I had to) watching my beloved K-dramas from beginning to its end. And if not for my parents’ scolding, I may have also watched my favorite dramas on school days which of course may be detrimental to my studies. *winks*

Here are some of the Asian Dramas I have watched over the years. I already lost count actually. :D

Here are some of the Asian Dramas I have watched over the years. I already lost count actually. 😀

As you can see above, I have already finished more than fifty Asian drama series. If my memory serves me right, the shortest drama that I have seen so far is that of Yamato Nadeshiko, a J-Drama with 10 episodes. On the other hand, the longest series I had in a decade, (which took me almost 3 days to finish) is that of the 45 episode K-Drama Smile,you.

I know for some, I was just wasting my time finishing these series. But for me, during those times, watching my favorite Asian dramas was an escape to reality. It was a refreshing activity after a very stressful school year or semester. Did I also mention that I’m not into heavy drama series? That’s because I’m more into romcoms. Honestly, it was the hilarious, romantic, touching scenes that makes me go crazy over dramas.

Since this is supposed to be a confession, I must also confess about the fancy dream I got before. Well, not a long time ago, I’ve dreamt of marrying some K-drama looking guy who will ride a bicycle with me, teach me how to ice skate, carry me on his back when I’m drunk and all the things my K-drama heroes have done for their K-drama heroines. Hahaha 😀 And Oh, I also dreamt of having those cute and adorable kids with my hubby.

Such a wishful thinking, isn’t it?  *winks*

So, what happened to the K-drama Addict in Me?

I actually don’t know. Recently, I’ve finished the Korean drama “You Who Came From the Starsand for some reasons, I didn’t feel that giddy (locals here call it “kilig”) feeling on scenes where I was supposed to feel this. 😀 Aside from this, I didn’t make the extra effort to procrastinate all night just to see the series to its end. This is a very unusual thing for me since I’m very used to sleeping at 4 AM when Asian dramas are concerned. What’s even bothering is that I think I have also stopped my fancy illusions about marrying a K-drama looking guy. ;D

For now, I just want an average-looking guy who can support me all the way. In other words, I’m becoming more realistic and practical these days.  (But of course, If fate brings me to the K-drama looking guy who can give me adorable kids, then who I am to go against it, right? ;D 😀 😀 )

The dramaYou Who Came From the Stars” has received a good feedback from its viewers so I’d like to think that the problem really lies in me. Is it because I didn’t felt the chemistry between the protagonists? Or is it because I’ve watched a bunch of series and the scenes were kinda predictable?

Or is it perhaps I am too old for Asian dramas?

Does anyone experience the same thing as I’m going through right now?

ciao

The Girl I Once Knew

The Girl I Once Knew

I know some honest missy

She tells what she sees

She says as she pleases

She blurts out things

She sets aside feelings

She’s prude. She’s rude.

That’s what everyone said.

She’s often misunderstood

But, she would rather look bad

Than to be some cunning stud

Now, this girl is in trouble

She’s nearing to a downfall

She’s hoping for a kind soul

But no one showed up

So she ended up going solo

The girl could only cry in silence

Keep to herself her sentiments

She felt so much disappointment

Yes, she‘s with a bunch

How come she can’t feel so much?

So, the girl tried to mingle

She jived into their jingle

She was not alone anymore

She should not ask for more

So, why she still felt miserable?

The girl is blunt no more

She used to be extrovert

Now, she became an introvert

She also lies more often too

I barely see now the girl I once knew

Okay, I know I should not be writing a poem now that everyone’s trying to work their butts off just to survive this semester. But, I really had to. Otherwise, I will not be able to do the things I had to do.

God bless us on our exams.

ciao

Volunteer Now for Typhoon Yolanda Relief Operations – Villamor Airbase

It’s over a week now since Visayas has been struck by typhoon Haiyan (locally known as Yolanda). Since then, many people who were not devastated by the typhoon are more than willing to help the survivors surpass this tragic event. As of now, three of the most popular and well-advertised organizations in the country include ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya, GMA Kapuso and Alagang Kapatid foundations. Well, there’s no problem volunteering in these organizations. However, I think the space there is becoming more limited as many volunteer workers are rushing to these areas.

So, for those who wanted to help but cannot be accommodated in the said groups, you might want to consider doing some volunteer work at Villamor Airbase Gym in Pasay City.

How Can You Help?

You can help in many ways. For one, you can gather the goods into one plastic bag. Normally, a bag will include a combination of noodles, canned goods and rice. Aside from this, you can also help move the packed goodies to the trucks. On that note, the team needs now people who are knowledgeable in logistics and stuffs like that. There are still other ways which you can be useful in the relief operations there. Just attend the briefing to find out what will work for you.

Finally, there’s no limit when it comes to reaching out to other people. If you are someone who can sleep comfortably at night and can eat three to five times a day, here is the chance for you to show how grateful you are. Even foreigners that are just here in our country for a vacation are there to help us out. So, what are you waiting for? Volunteer now and help Visayas rebuild what Typhoon Yolanda has ruined.

P.S.

Don’t go to Villamor Airbase right away without informing them before hand. That way, you will know what schedule will suit you the best. Based on my observation, the team there now mostly need volunteers from 8 PM onwards since these are the times where there are less volunteers in the area.

Oh and by the way, I would also like to acknowledge the effort of our Armed Forces of the Philippines(AFP) in the on-going relief operations. After seeing how they get involved in the whole relief-packing process, I came to realize that our AFP is not just there during times of war. We can count on them too even in our country’s trying times. Kudos to you sir and ma’am! Thank you so much.

Count your blessings.

ciao
